Who am I?    Why this site? 

I am the initiator of this site. BELGIAN female of over 55 years old and have a chronic condition since I was very young because of a badly damaged spine – with five vertebrea traumatized - and, the genetic factor HLA-B27 positive, a well known factor for many  types of immune deficiency  illnesses.
ANYWAY, any illness, accident or trauma is pure bad luck, whatever any judging member of our society might pretend.

For many years no one knew of my condition, I simply disappeared from the social scene and spend regularly some weeks lying down crippled with inflammations. Despite this ever returning "attacks" I travelled extensively through EUROPE - HITCHHIKING, through USA with RAILWAYS buses and spend some months in MEXICO.Then lived three years in NAIROBI, KENYA and then 10 years on LANZAROTE (CANARIAN ISLANDS, SPAIN) with a partner.

In 1997 I went back to Belgium where  specialists took four years to find out that, due all these years of chronic inflammation, I had developed severe stenosis of the spinal cord. All the nerves where squeezed to breaking point. After a delicate urgent operation I had to accept the verdict, I landed in an ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR, a travelling experience in its own way.

After 5 years wheeling experience I want to share with my compagnons in fate how one can have a great life, even in a wheelchair.Our condition cannot be compared to paraplegics (accident or birth) or people born with a severe handicap, but we all are confronted with similar restrictions in our social lives and travelling options.

I live on a safe and comfortable camping site in a park in Belgium and travel at "backpacking prices" with a semi mobile home with a semi automatic gearbox as to be able to drive myself where the sun warms my bones.
